CHEVY CHASE, MARYLAND – Shopping center leasing, management, and development company JBG Rosenfeld Retail (JBGR) has secured a new tenant for the 7,076 square-foot space left vacant last fall following convenience store Wawa’s abrupt departure from College Park Shopping Center.  The new tenant, Texas-based fast-casual restaurant Jason’s Deli, is known for an extensive menu of soups, salads, and sandwiches available for eat-in, carryout, or catering.  The restaurant is scheduled to open this fall.

“Last September, we made a commitment to the students of the University of Maryland, and the greater College Park community, that we would find a new, dynamic tenant for the former Wawa space,” said JBGR Executive Vice President and University of Maryland Alumnus Bob Schwenger, “and this lease with Jason’s Deli is confirmation of that commitment.  Jason’s is a great complement to an already exceptional tenant mix at College Park Shopping Center, and we are confident that they will find success there.”  The College Park location will be the first for the concept in Maryland.

Founded in 1976 in a strip-center in Beaumont, Texas, the original Jason’s Deli offered only 12 menu items and seated merely 40 patrons.  Today, more than 30 years later, Jason’s Deli has grown to include more than 170 company-owned and franchised deli locations serving more than 90 varieties of sandwiches, plus many other menu items.  In 2005, Jason’s Deli made national news when it eliminated partially-hydrogenated oils from its menu, becoming the first, major, fast-casual restaurant to become trans-fat free.  For more information on the concept, visit www.jasonsdeli.com.

Located at the intersection of Baltimore Avenue (Route 1), and Knox and Hartwick Roads, College Park Shopping Center is a 90,537 square-foot shopping center located in Prince Georges County, Maryland.  The center, which sits on the edge of the University of Maryland’s main campus, features nationally-recognized tenants CVS/pharmacy, Starbucks Coffee, Chipotle, Noodles & Company, Domino’s Pizza, FedEx Kinko’s, and Applebee’s, among others.  It is currently 96% leased.

Based in Chevy Chase, Maryland, JBG Rosenfeld Retail specializes in the leasing, development, acquisition, construction, and management of retail properties throughout the mid-Atlantic region.  Currently, JBGR holds more than 30 shopping centers, nine freestanding store sites, and numerous mixed-use retail sites in its portfolio.  For more information on the full scope of the company’s services, call (301) 657-0700, or visit www.jbgr.com.
