CHEVY CHASE, MARYLAND – Shopping center leasing, management, and development company  JBG Rosenfeld Retail (JBGR) recently secured leases with five new retailers at Alexandria Commons, launching the 146,000 square-foot community shopping center to 100% retail occupancy.  Starbucks Coffee, Quizno’s Sub, Success Lab Learning Center, Zpizza, and Scottrade have committed to a total of nearly 10,000 square feet of space at the property, and are expected to open by March.

“Alexandria Commons’ prime location is an enormous selling point for retailers seeking space in the area,” said JBGR Principal Jim Garibaldi.  “Not only is the center situated in a residential district, but it also is in close proximity to a number of large office complexes, including those on the outskirts of Old Town Alexandria.  Our intention has been to attract tenants that appeal to both the local businessperson and the area resident, in order to generate a consistent flow of traffic from the early morning into the late evening.  The addition of Starbucks, Quizno’s, Zpizza, Success Lab, and Scottrade to the tenant mix validates that objective.  We are pleased to welcome all four concepts to the center.”  JBGR represents landlord Steuart Investment Company at Alexandria Commons.

Still fairly new to Virginia, Zpizza is a gourmet pizza concept recognized for its health-conscious approach to pizza, salads, and sandwiches.  The concept prides itself on the use of organic tomato sauce, part-skim mozzarella, wheat crust, soy cheese, and fresh vegetables in all of its menu items, as well as ingraining itself in the local community.  Currently, there are four Zpizza locations in northern Virginia.

Devoted to improving scholastic achievement for children in grades Pre-K through 12, Success Lab Learning Centers differentiate themselves from the competition by assessing how children learn as well as what they know. The company’s own “Learning Management System” incorporates the Guilford/Meeker Structure of Intellect™ (SOI®) Model specifically developed for skill identification and mastery, and results in a customized program for each student that strengthens any underdeveloped abilities, and challenges those that already are well developed. Scottrade, established in Phoenix, AZ, in 1980, allows individual investors comfortable with making their own investment decisions to conveniently, comfortably, and cost-efficiently place trades online, while offering the service and added assurance of branch offices across the country.  Currently, there are six Scottrade offices in the metropolitan Washington area, including the newest to open at Alexandria Commons.  For additional information, visit www.scottrade.com.

Built in 1990, Alexandria Commons is a community shopping center owned by Steuart Investment Company of Chevy Chase, Maryland.  Regarded as one of the City of Alexandria’s prime retail properties, the center’s tenants include anchor Giant Food, Mastercraft Interiors, “fresh-Mex” concept Baja Fresh, Panera Bread Company, and Lone Star Steak House, among others.  Alexandria Commons is located in the 3000 block of Duke Street (Route 236), just west of Telegraph Road.
