FREDERICK, MARYLAND – The renovation and expansion of Frederick’s longest-standing shopping center officially is complete, a massive effort that resulted in not only a facade upgrade, but also the addition of a multi-tenant pad and stand-alone bank building, tenant relocations and expansions, and a multitude of additional architectural improvements.   To culminate the completion, shopping center owner JBG Rosenfeld Retail (JBGR), in conjunction with the merchants’ association, will host a free, family-friendly, grand reopening event on Saturday, June 14, 2008, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“The residents of Frederick and the surrounding community have been very patient these last few years as we’ve worked to update and enhance the shopping center,” said JBGR Executive Vice President Bob Schwenger, “so we wanted to do something special to show our appreciation for their continued patronage.  This weekend’s grand reopening event is just that, as well as an opportunity to showcase the enhancements made there.  With the renovation officially complete, we are poised to serve the Frederick community for another 50-plus years.”  Last year marked the 50th anniversary of the shopping center, which originally opened for business in 1957 and was Frederick’s only shopping center at the time.

The renovation and expansion efforts at Frederick Shopping Center began in 2004 when JBGR secured approval from the city’s planning commission to construct two, new pad sites at the property.  Shortly thereafter, the company announced it had secured a lease with Chevy Chase Bank for one of the pad buildings, and a second lease with Ashley Furniture HomeStore for the 62,000 square-foot space left vacant by Ames the prior year.  Within 12 months, JBGR had embarked on a complete overhaul of the center including the addition of the second, 14,000 square-foot pad building; major architectural upgrades featuring brick and other durable materials, new lighting, sidewalks, and landscaping; plus a renewed commitment from Giant Eagle to expand its operations at the center, resulting in the relocation of Pet Valu and Hair Cuttery to new storefronts.  In total, JBGR’s efforts over the past four years have resulted in the addition of 17,000 square feet of new retail space, as well as a host of other new retailers, including Bonefish Grill, Glory Days Grille, Caballo Viejo, Randstad, and Allegany Optical.

Located on West 7th Street and highly visible from Route 15, Frederick Shopping Center is 236,500 square-foot Ashley Furniture and Giant Eagle-anchored retail center.  The property boasts national retailers Staples, CVS/pharmacy, Hallmark Gold Crown, Bonefish Grill, AAA, Radio Shack, Sherwin Williams, among others, as well as a number of locally-owned businesses.  For a full tenant listing, visit www.frederickshoppingcenter.com
