CHEVY CHASE, MARYLAND – Grocer Harris Teeter has opened its doors at Woodland Park Crossing in Herndon, signaling that the mixed-use community at the intersection of Sunrise Valley Drive and Monroe Street officially is open for business. The Matthews, NC-based grocer hosted a “Sneak Peek/Taste of Teeter” event at the 49,000 square-foot store on Tuesday evening, but opened to the public Wednesday morning. The new store, which is open 24-hours, encompasses all of Harris Teeter’s signature service areas, including a full-service meat department featuring the Harris Teeter Rancher and Reserve Angus beef, a full-service fresh foods department, a “Farmers Market” featuring produce from around the world, a Fisherman’s Market seafood department, as well as specialty and international foods, imported cheeses, sushi, wine and beer, fresh flowers, and pharmacy, among other service areas. The grand opening will continue throughout the weekend, to include free Harris Teeter specialty product samples during select hours, as well as a visit on Saturday from the Harris Teeter Mascot Harry the Dragon, among other attractions.
In addition to Harris Teeter, eight other retailers at Woodland Park Crossing also are open for business. Moby Dick House of Kabob, Art & Frame Depot, Ritz Camera, and Hour Eyes commenced operations recently, following the lead of Panera Bread, Starbucks, Chevy Chase Bank, and Pei Wei Asian Diner, which opened within the last two months. The retail space on the first level of the development is 100% leased, while approximately 65% of the second-floor professional space is leased. Dolce Pomodoro Italian Restaurant, Mylannie Day Spa, Quiznos, ZPizza, Next Day Blinds, Down Dog Yoga, Capital Area Pediatrics, are just a few of the other retailers that have leased space at the property.
“We are pleased to welcome Harris Teeter to Woodland Park Crossing,” said JBGR Principal Grant Ehat, “and are confident that they will find success here. The development is unmatched in Herndon in terms of the tenant mix, as well as the convenience for area professionals and residents, not to mention the future on-site residents. It’s satisfying to see the product of many years of planning come to life.” Woodland Park Crossing, which is less than a half-mile from the Dulles Access Road, also is adjacent to Woodland Pointe, the future headquarters of Volkswagen USA.
Just minutes from Washington Dulles International Airport, Woodland Park Crossing is a 360,000 square-foot mixed-use development that, when complete, will feature over 124,000 square feet of retail and professional space, as well as 205 residential units above. The development was designed to have an urban feel, including pedestrian friendly walkways, brick and masonry building facades and structured parking. The residential component, developed by Maryland-based Bozzuto Group, broke ground in March of this year. Delivery is anticipated to begin during the third quarter of 2008.
